12 November 2025HCACP - 35 Years of Excellence and a Fourth “Outstanding” OfstedHarris City Academy Crystal Palace has just celebrated its 35th anniversary, along with the incredible achievement of receiving a fourth consecutive “Outstanding” judgment from Ofsted. To mark the occasion, students and staff hosted a special event, welcoming back alumni and special guests, including Lord Harris and former Prime Minister The Rt Hon Sir John Major, who officially opened the school back in 1990. His return 35 years later made the celebration even more meaningful. The Academy first opened in 1990 as Harris City Technology College, replacing Sylvan High School, which was struggling at the time. With the support of Lord Harris of Peckham, the school quickly turned things around and became one of the first independent state schools in England. In 2007 it officially became an Academy, and helped pave the way for the Harris Federation. Former Prime Minister The Rt Hon Sir John Major, returned to HCACP 35 years after opening the school in 1990. Transforming the lives of students Since then, HCACP has transformed the lives of thousands of students from Croydon and beyond. With consistently strong results at GCSE and A Level, students have gone on to top universities and high-level apprenticeships, often overcoming significant challenges to get there. As part of the event, three major awards were presented. The Sir John Major Award was given to Oscar Ocieczek, who achieved an incredible 4 A*s this summer, and has now started a competitive apprenticeship at Microsoft as a Solution Engineer for Cloud and AI. The Valentine Douglas Award was awarded to Tahseen Miah and Cherise Aboagye-Mensah for their commitment to learning. Each received £15,000 per year to support them during their university studies. The Charlie Harris Award, which celebrates sporting success, went to Ignacy Zakrzewski-Obem for his achievements in basketball. This same award was previously won by Sadia Kabeya, now a professional rugby player for England’s Red Roses. Strong results have transformed the lives of thousands of students from Croydon and beyond. Celebration, reflection and inspiration Guests were given a tour of the school, enjoyed student performances, and joined a speed-networking event where former students shared their career experiences with Sixth Formers. It was an absolute privilege to hear from both Sir John Major and Lord Harris, who continue to inspire our students 35 years on. This was a day of celebration, reflection and inspiration, marking outstanding education and the students who continue to make the Harris City Academy Crystal Palace proud. 24 September 2025Year 7 - The Start of an Exciting New School CareerHarris City Academy Crystal Palace have officially welcomed their new cohort of Year 7 students and smoothly aided their transition into secondary school. HCACP know how scary it can be making the change from primary school to secondary school, which is why the staff and class tutors go beyond to ease the transition. Year 7 attended an early induction day to get comfortable with the school and learn a bit more about what HCACP life will look like for them. They spent the day with their form tutor, who outlined our school values and what is expected of each individual student. However, the key purpose of the induction day was for the students to familiarise themselves with the school and each other. This called for some group icebreakers within the form group. From personalised bingo to ‘two truths and a lie’, fun and laughter enabled everyone to make some friends on their first day. "I have loved having a Year 7 form to help my transition as someone new myself." Ms Watts Form time is important at the start of term, as it provides a safe space for students to ask questions or raise any concerns. The tutors at HCACP aim for each student to finish their first week knowing at least one member of staff well and understanding that they are in a safe space. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace have one simple vision: ‘All Can Achieve’ and this is instilled from day one at the start of each student’s Harris journey. Over the next five years, at HCACP, these Year 7 students will grow into the best version of themselves. "This school is good because I get to learn new stuff, move around, and meet new teachers." Ziya Our Enrichment Clubs are available to all students from the start of term to help students reach their full potential, outside of the academic curriculum. We hope that the Year 7 students are excited to step out their comfort zone and try something new this term. There are a variety of clubs to choose from, ranging from Creative Writing to Robotics or even Chess club. All Enrichment Clubs and the timetable can be found on our website. We look forward to being on this journey with Year 7 and will continue to prioritise their transition into Harris City Academy Crystal Palace.

7 November 2024Anti Bullying Week, Monday 11th – Friday 15th November 2024  Monday 11th November marks the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week, and this year’s theme is “Choose Respect”. This Anti-Bullying Week let's make a powerful choice to "Choose Respect". Respect is the foundation of kindness, empathy and understanding, and it’s what builds inclusive, supportive communities. Whether online or in person, each of us has the power to stand up against bullying by treating others with dignity and kindness. Let’s come together to create a safe space for everyone, where differences are celebrated, and everyone feels valued. Join us in making a positive impact: remember, when we choose respect, we choose a better world for all. Statistics from the Anti-Bullying Alliance reveal that 40% of children in the UK have suffered some form of bullying within the last year, with the most common experience being name-calling and verbal abuse. While it can have several causes, this kind of behaviour is commonly seen when a disagreement between two youngsters gets out of hand and emotions take over For children, it’s just as important to avoid this kind of behaviour whenever possible; without the necessary guidance, however, they could struggle to identify any disrespectful behaviour, let alone recognise what they can do differently. Top tips for parents and educators This guide offers you expert advice on teaching children and young people to choose respect when interacting with their peers, helping to create an environment based on empathy and tolerance.
