Introduction

Congratulations on gaining a place at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace. We are delighted to welcome you and your family to our school community and are very much looking forward to meeting our new cohort of students.

We recognise that beginning life at secondary school is a huge step. Our priority throughout the transition process is to ensure all students who will be joining us in September are fully prepared, to provide families with the information they need to support their children and to enable our new cohort of students to start a new and exciting journey at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace – both academically and personally.

We have designed our Year 7 curriculum to build on everything students have learned in Years 5 and 6. This ensures they continue learning seamlessly as they move into secondary school.

To help students and parents feel confident about the transition, we will be visiting local primary schools to introduce ourselves to prospective students. We also host an induction day with taster sessions where Year 6 students can try out different subjects, take part in fun and interactive lessons, and start making new friends. These experiences help ease any worries and build excitement for the journey ahead.

Once students begin with us in September, we continue to offer plenty of support to ensure everyone settles in well to Year 7. This includes a full transition day on their first day so that all students are getting to know their new school before other year groups arrive back for the beginning of the academic year.
