Year 7 - The Start of an Exciting New School Career

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace have officially welcomed their new cohort of Year 7 students and smoothly aided their transition into secondary school.

HCACP know how scary it can be making the change from primary school to secondary school, which is why the staff and class tutors go beyond to ease the transition. Year 7 attended an early induction day to get comfortable with the school and learn a bit more about what HCACP life will look like for them.

They spent the day with their form tutor, who outlined our school values and what is expected of each individual student. However, the key purpose of the induction day was for the students to familiarise themselves with the school and each other. This called for some group icebreakers within the form group. From personalised bingo to ‘two truths and a lie’, fun and laughter enabled everyone to make some friends on their first day.

"I have loved having a Year 7 form to help my transition as someone new myself." Ms Watts

Form time is important at the start of term, as it provides a safe space for students to ask questions or raise any concerns. The tutors at HCACP aim for each student to finish their first week knowing at least one member of staff well and understanding that they are in a safe space.

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace have one simple vision: ‘All Can Achieve’ and this is instilled from day one at the start of each student’s Harris journey. Over the next five years, at HCACP, these Year 7 students will grow into the best version of themselves.

"This school is good because I get to learn new stuff, move around, and meet new teachers." Ziya

Our Enrichment Clubs are available to all students from the start of term to help students reach their full potential, outside of the academic curriculum. We hope that the Year 7 students are excited to step out their comfort zone and try something new this term. There are a variety of clubs to choose from, ranging from Creative Writing to Robotics or even Chess club. All Enrichment Clubs and the timetable can be found on our website.

We look forward to being on this journey with Year 7 and will continue to prioritise their transition into Harris City Academy Crystal Palace.
