Music for Youth Festival

On the 27th of February Chamber Choir students represented Harris Academy Crystal Palace at the prestigious Music for Youth festival in Camden. It was a promising day for Chamber Choir as we had fought long and hard to perfect our song. Rhea Thomas sung the difficult solo and harmonies were put in place to give the song a real gospel togetherness. Every Friday morning students that attended Chamber Choir go to the Music room and practise in the mornings. Emmanuel Ezra accompanied us on the piano which gave it a beautiful vibe. Miss Patterson leads Chamber Choir and without her this wouldn’t have happened.

On Thursday after tutor time all students rehearsed one final time before departing at 10 o’clock. We first walked to Crystal Palace train station before taking the train to London Bridge then the tube to Camden. We had a chance to explore Camden for a little while staying in our own little groups looking at the shops and famous Camden Market. Afterwards we started to make our way to the venue where we would see the other schools also attending the Music for Youth regional performance. There were six schools including us and every school had their own specialism. We were the only school that sang, the others  played all sorts of instruments from steel drums to brass instruments. We had about ten minutes to warm up before we had to perform in front of two experienced musicians and five other schools.  We held our nerve and delivered a good performance sticking to the things we had learnt.

After all the performances the two judges gave their verdicts of the postive and negative aspects of each performance including areas to improve. They praised us for having a real togetherness in our music and that the harmonies were excellent; again giving that real gospel vibe.  Overall the experience was incredible, especially listening to the performances and witnessing the dedication of everyone involved. Hopefully we will be invited to the National competition but if we don't proceed we know that we prepared very well and delivered a great performance. A big shout out to the Music department for organising this and to everyone involved including Miss Patterson, Emmanuel Ezra and all the students in the Chamber Choir. Well done!
