Jack Petchey Awards Evening

On the evening of 18th November 2013, the Jack Petchey Awards Evening for schools in Croydon was held at Fairfield Halls. George Mcnaughton-Ellis, Oliver Murray, Nashada Saka, Erlla Caramba-Coker Michaela James, Joseph Perry, Quiana Simpson-Plummer and Bradley Simms received their awards from Yvette Hopley, the Mayor of Croydon and were warmly applauded by a packed Ashcroft Theatre. Each received a gold medallion to commemorate their achievement in being selected to win a Jack Petchey Award. Students were nominated to win for a variety of reasons - from commitment to developing Music in the Academy, to sporting achievement, to the excellent attendance, punctuality and attitude that, while never unnoticed, is sometimes unsung. All of these students are phenomenal ambassadors for our academy and I was very proud to see them honoured on Monday night.

This year's first award winner will shortly be decided upon by the year 11 prefects, who will share responsibility for promoting the awards and choosing the winners with the Student Council. An important part of the prize is £200 which must be spent for the benefit of the students at the Academy in some way. Keep an eye out on the website for updates on who the students select as their Jack Petchey Achievement Award winners this year.
