Harris City Academy Crystal Palace victorious at the fourth Battle of the Brains

After weeks of preparation it was finally time to take part in Battle of the Brains. Our team of six students, together with Ms Feasey and Ms Neill, left Crystal Palace at 12.15 to travel on the bus to Harris Academy South Norwood to take part in the fourth annual Battle of the Brains competition. This year was really important; after coming second to Harris Academy Beckenham last year we needed to regain our title.

We arrived in time to eat our packed lunches outside in the sunshine. Fully fuelled we entered the rival Academy and found our table at the back of the drama hall. The event kicked off with a tuneful rendition from the Academy’s choir. Soon all the other 13 Harris Academies had arrived and the competition began.

Round after round of some easy, and some not so easy questions, were asked about a whole host of different subjects from Science to Popular Culture. We found the English and Art rounds the most challenging but half way through the competition it was announced that we were in second place by one point. We knew that victory was close.

After a quick break of juice and biscuits, only 7 rounds stood between us and the trophy. With the final question over, we waited patiently for the results. One by one each of the other Academies were announced until finally the top three were left. In third place came Harris Academy East Dulwich Boys. We nervously paused as they announced second place …. Harris Academy South Norwood. We had won! This was excellent news and a brilliant end to a brilliant day.
