Today marks the last day of Anti-Bullying Week, and we’re learning how to recognise when someone might be experiencing bullying. Look out for changes in mood, behaviour, confidence, or friendships and always speak to a trusted adult if you’re worried about someone.#HCACP pic.twitter.com/ECnGYoQi13

Adventure to Andalucía

On the 2nd April 2012, 30 students from Years 9 and 10 set off on a 5 day adventure to Andalucía, Spain with Ms. Sharma, Ms. Underwood and Mr. McCabe as our guardians. After an early morning start at school for 2pm, we made our way to Gatwick Airport and endured a 2 ½ hour flight which ended with a very rough landing. When we arrived in the town of Malaga we left our luggage on the coach and went around town looking at the beautiful scenery, especially looking at the Cathedral, whilst others were more intent on attempting to buy ½ a litre of ice cream whilst speaking in Spanish. When we finally reached the hotel we went and had dinner and spent the rest of the night doing as we wished until lights out.

Our morning routine everyday was to get up at 8am, shower, get dressed and make our way down to have breakfast and then get ready for what lied ahead for us throughout the day.

On Tuesday; we went to the village of Mijas, a small secluded area set high in the mountains where we wandered around and found a small chocolate factory shop were flavours varied from a version of Terry’s Chocolate Orange to Chocolate Curry. We also went to Puerto Banus; an upmarket port where Ms. Sharma picked out her future luxury yacht whilst others spent most of the time looking at the view. In the evening we all had a traditional lesson in the art of the Flamenco Dance where, towards the end, some showed their true Flamenco prowess.

On Wednesday; we visited Granada where we had the opportunity to go to a department store in the city – for many this was the perfect opportunity to stock up on food and drink, especially the original Sunny D which contained little, to no fruit juice in it, but was more like a fuelled sugar rush injection. We then went to the Alhambra Palace, a 14th Century fortress for Moorish rulers also set up in the mountains. Full of intricate designs on the walls, patios, pools, pavilions and vast gardens you can see why this is a popular tourist attraction in Spain.

On Thursday; we spent the day at Tivoli World, Spain’s answer to Chessington World of Adventures where we pretty much had the theme park to ourselves. With people getting soaking wet on the water ride and Mr. McCabe and Ms. Sharma getting battered and bruised on the Gadventure to Andalucíao-Karts it was a fun day out to relax and enjoy our final full day.

On Friday; we checked out of the hotel and left our luggage in the basement hall whilst we set off to the Aquarium in the local area. We spent quite a bit of time there engaging with the wildlife and just chilling whilst the warm breeze blew. Later on we said our goodbyes to Hotel Balmoral and headed to the Airport. On the late flight many slept and when we woke up we had arrived back home in England.

All in all, the trip was a good way to spend our first week of Easter Holidays and it gave us a vast insight into the culture of Spain and the opportunity to test our speaking skills. I would strongly recommend this trip to any of the future up coming years as we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
