Today marks the last day of Anti-Bullying Week, and we’re learning how to recognise when someone might be experiencing bullying. Look out for changes in mood, behaviour, confidence, or friendships and always speak to a trusted adult if you’re worried about someone.#HCACP pic.twitter.com/ECnGYoQi13

Tate Modern

On 4th February we visited the Tate Modern which was amazing. First we went to a gallery with a Tate Modern Artist and we did (if I do say so myself) some fantastic work. We cut out shapes, a circle and a rectangle, from some paper and used the outline of the shapes as a stencil to look through. We looked through the stencil and we looked into some paintings and chose the view we liked best. After that we drew the image that we saw through the stencil and we tried to copy the exact image we saw. Once we finished we gave our drawings to someone else and they had to look at the paintings in the gallery and try to guess which one we copied to make our drawings. I really enjoyed this activity because it was a nice time to draw and it was so fun trying to guess someone else’s drawing.

The next activity we did was an imagination activity. We had pictures from magazines and newspapers and we had to create a story with the images we got. This was my favourite activity because I got to use imagination and creativity which I found really interesting. We used black and white photographs from a small gallery to gain inspiration for our project. We had a starting image on an A2 piece of paper. My group devised a really detailed story where the main character (Marilyn Monroe) was best friends with Amy Winehouse. We made up other crazy stories like that as well and spider even wove his way into our story!

We had lunch after that and then we had a bit of free time; however in that free time we had to do at least 2 out of the 3 tasks given. First my group went to the gift shop and then we went into a gallery and drew what our idea of the future would look like, looking at the Russian Etchings around us, for inspiration. The next task we had was to write about a sculpture or painting and complete a fact file using the information that was given just beside the sculpture or painting. I chose a sculpture that was a tangled up engine covered in blue sparkly glitter. I think it is interesting that Moden art can be so easy but look so beautiful and that more traditional or 'older' art looks so complicated yet stunning. In conclusion I really enjoyed Tate Modern and can't wait to visit again.
