The Shakespeare Schools Festival

On Thursday 9th October, the cast of HCACP’s production of Romeo and Juliet went to the Secombe theatre in Sutton to attend the Shakespeare Schools Festival.  When we arrived our first activity was to shake hands and say hi to everybody in the room, this meant that we couldn’t be shy.  We then split into groups to create a freeze frame of a birthday party.  Each time a person entered the scene they had to declare themselves as a new object or person.  This ended up creating some of the strangest freeze frames ever!

We took part in several exercises to prepare us for the stage and to keep us focused and then we went onto a proper theatre stage to learn how to project our voice and perform our pieces.  We critiqued each other’s performances and discussed what we enjoyed about them. Finally the teachers gave us some individual pointers to work on to make the our performances even more spectacular

Overall we had a cool time and I’d recommend that anybody interested in drama should take part in the Shakespeare school festival.  It’s a valuable experience if you are considering a career in the performing arts.
