BBC's Rory Cellan-Jones

This morning, as a part of the Speakers For Schools programme, BBC News technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones visited the Academy to talk about the importance of technology and how it has vastly changed our lives. His prescient knowledge of modern technology is outstanding and his overview of on-going changes incredibly detailed.  He also spoke on the importance of coding, the ways it impacts our everyday lives and the opportunities learning those skills could bring us. It’s exciting to know that coding will be added to the curriculum in 2014.

Later, reporters Sunna, Sophiar and Uma interviewed Rory to find out in more depth how he sees the modern world.  He strongly believes that Facebook has a good future ahead of it and that shutting down sites like Ask.fm would not have a significant effect on cyber bullying.  We asked him what his ‘Desert Island’ gadget would be, to which he replied “I wouldn’t be able to live without a smartphone and an internet connection”.  We thoroughly enjoyed the day, one of our reporters, Sophiar, stated “It was a great experience interviewing Rory Cellan-Jones and it was really nice meeting him.”
