Mosaic Mentoring Programme

Mosaic Mentoring Programme
A group of Year 11 students have been involved in the Mosaic Mentoring Programme over the last five months.  Founded by The Prince of Wales, the scheme aims to lift the aspirations of young people, boost their confidence, self-efficacy and long term employability.

The programme was delivered by volunteers from industry and our mentors were led by Saad Mahmood, Director Academics and Corporate Affairs from LCBMIT.  One of the students, Sunna commented on her experience.  “The mentoring scheme has been both motivating and beneficial.  We were all helped in difference ways from confident building to developing basic skills.  Meeting the mentors made us realise that with hard work we can be as successful as they are.  Each of us has taken away an important skill or experience which will be helpful in later life.  My favourite part was when our mentor Abid, set us a challenge of starting our own business.  This taught us skills such as profit margins, market research and careful planning in order to succeed in creating an effective business.  These skills made us more economically aware and business savvy and gave us a real insight into the world of work.”

The mentoring sessions culminated in a World of Work visit and celebration event where students had the opportunity to visit an employer’s premises to gain a better insight in to a working environment.  We visited the TV chef Vivek Singh’s renowned restaurant, The Cinnamon Club.  Nathan, one of the mentees, said that the visit was “eye-opening and taught us how a restaurant is run”.  It was a pleasure to meet not only Vivek but also the various employees who work so well together to ensure that this restaurant is one of the best in London.
