Visit from the US Ambassador

On Wednesday, January 15th 2014 - the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Matthew Barzun, visited Harris Crystal Palace Sixth Form to discuss his role as an American diplomat and engage in a conversation about our perceptions of the United States.

Greeted on arrival to the tune of the American national anthem as played by George McNaughton (Year 11), the Ambassador spoke at length to a convened audience of over 80 Sixth Form students on a diversity of issues including; healthcare, gun law, patriotism and electronic surveillance.

The Ambassador was keen to gauge student perceptions of his nation, providing all with the opportunity to share their views of America and its role in the World in real time using interactive keypads; using this as a springboard for further discussion.

It was clear that all who attended felt better informed about some of the biggest issues facing America and our World today, with this leading to new conversations to be had amongst students about the some of the World's greatest global challenges.

The Harris Sixth Form would like to thank Ambassador Barzun for taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak to us, as well as the US Embassy for organising the visit. We very much look forward to welcoming the Ambassador back to Harris Crystal Palace in the future.
