About the course
The Eduquas GCSE qualification in music offers a broad and coherent course of study which encourages learner to:
- Develop performing skills individually and in groups to communicate musically with fluency and control of the resources used
- Develop composing skills to organise musical ideas and make use of appropriate resources
- Recognise links between the integrated activities of performing, composing and appraising and how this informs the development of music
- Develop knowledge, understanding and skills needed to communicate effectively as musicians
- Develop awareness of music technologies and their use in the creation and presentation of music
- Reflect upon and evaluate their own and others’ music
How it is assessed
The course is made up of three components, two coursework based and one external exam.:
Component 1: Performing 30% - Students will perform a solo and ensemble piece, which are both internally assessed
Component 2: Composing 30% - Students create two composition, one of their own choice and one to a choice of four briefs, these are both internally assessed
Component 3: Appraising 40% - Students complete an external music listening exam at the end of Y11, assessing their knowledge and understanding of music thorough the four areas taught during the course.
