Spring Term Reopening

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you have had a restful break and you and your families are well. As you will be aware, the government announced a revised more stringent national restrictions yesterday evening. The new arrangements are designed to suppress the spread of the virus and protect public health, as well as helping schools put in place the plan needed to test all students for Covid-19 before they return to school. Details about the testing, together with a consent form for you (or your child if they are over 16) to sign, will follow.

Week Commencing January 4th

The Academy will be open to vulnerable pupils and the children of critical workers from Wednesday 6th January. Children coming into the academy will be given the support they need to access online provision. This is a really important service that will help students and families who qualify. If you are unsure whether your child qualifies, further details can be found here

All other pupils start full-time remote education on Wednesday 6th January. This provision will be in place until at least February half term subject to any further changes in government guidance.

Students will receive a timetable of virtual lessons and will also be set homework via Show My Homework and MSTeams. Lessons which will be delivered via MSTeams, will be as close as possible to the education they would receive if they were in school.

Faculty Directors will email more specific guidance regarding students’ timetables, expectations and log on details on Tuesday 5th January.

Currently vocational exams will go ahead as planned and we will be running revision sessions for students sitting these examinations. Students will be contacted individually with more details regarding these sessions.

I know that after a difficult and challenging year with coronavirus, this latest announcement will cause further disruption particularly for those of you with children in younger year groups who need supervision. However, with Covid cases at a record high and a new variant of the virus spreading at a faster rate, the new plans will help to keep our community safe which is the top priority for everyone.

As ever, we rely on the support of parents and students. Please continue to observe the Lockdown restrictions, which mean that you must minimise time spent outside your home and must not meet socially with others. Whilst some of what is being asked is not easy, in the run up to students returning to school it is absolutely essential that we all play our part to keep everybody safe.

Thank you

Katherine Cumberbatch, Principal
