Year 12 Trip to Paris

On Wednesday 1st July, 20 French AS students, Ms Jackson and Ms Rezouki set off for 3 fantastic days in Paris. We started very early and took the Eurostar from St Pancras. Everyone was in great spirits, despite one student cutting it so fine she had only minutes before check in closed!
We arrived in Paris Gare du Nord then went straight to our hotel to drop off our luggage. Our hotel was in a fabulous position, right next to Montmartre and Sacré Coeur. Despite the 42 degrees heat, we climbed up the steps to Montmartre and visited Sacré Coeur and the Place du Théâtre.
Later that day we took the métro to Arc du Triomphe and strolled down the length of the Champs Elysées, dreaming of what we could buy if only we could afford it! Evening meal was a traditional French style pizza called a Flam, which received mixed reviews from everyone! Later that evening we took a bateau mouche along the Seine, marvelling at the incredible buildings along the way.
Thursday was slightly cooler (38 degrees!) so we took the lift to the top of the Tour Montparnasse to see the amazing views over Paris. We then went to Notre Dame, the Quartier Latin for some lovely souvenir shopping then on to the Louvre where everyone flocked to see the Mona Lisa!
Our final day was spent at the Eiffel Tower, where four brave souls took the plunge and climbed the many stairs to the second floor. It was worth the effort as the views were breath-taking. We then had some retail therapy at Les Halles where lots of us spent our remaining euros.
Everyone behaved impeccably and represented the Academy in a most impressive way. Despite the heat we had a really wonderful time and I felt privileged to have taken such well-mannered and enthusiastic young people to this great city.
