Maths for the win

Following on from a highly successful Maths Month in March this year, it has been a fantastic June with 2 key victories in Maths competitions.

In the annual Federation Manga High Tournament, Harris Crystal Palace thrashed all other academies by a significant margin. Our closest competition Harris Morden scored a respectable 2543 points, but this was still miles behind our grand total of 3828 points! Other academies only scored a few hundred points between them. During this 9-day competition, our enthusiastic and motivated students attempted the various mathematical challenges and puzzles assigned to them. They fought hard to win medals and accumulated points towards the huge academy total. Crystal Palace are now the proud winners of this competition for the 3rd year running, and our students look forward to extending this winning streak in future years. Our top 5 medal winners this year are: Romero Aguiar, Mani Wondafrash, Penuel Adu-Amankwah, Jack Davies and Lauryn Brown.

In the Times Tables Rock Stars Challenge held at Bloomberg HQ London, our team consisted of Mohamed Ahmed, Jai Sood, Nishand Rajagopal and Aasiyah Kanji. Mohamed was crowned the overall winner after overcoming many heats and finals. They successfully defeated 36 other schools, including several Harris academies which also took part. Their efforts were made worthwhile as they were rewarded with a limousine ride in London followed by a helicopter flight. Special thanks must go to Miss Berry who organised numerous times tables training sessions after school to prepare for this competition. Make sure you look out for press coverage in the Metro later this week! https://ttrockstars.com/page/londonwrangle2015

The Maths department would like to thank and congratulate all students who got involved in these competitions. We’re now working hard to win the Federation Chess Competition on Wed 15th July. Speak to Miss Berry or Mr Rose for more information and attend training sessions on Wednesdays after school.
