Revision Expectations - Physics

Use the topic list and checklist provided to chunk your revision. Break up large specification points into smaller topics. Then break up the smaller topics into individual concepts that are easier to digest.

  • Create flash cards for each topic with questions at the front and answers on the back.

  • Create a glossary for all no excuse vocabulary you’ve used in lessons.
  • Create mind maps/ concepts maps to help you link concepts with one another and give a clear overview of a topic.

  • Use the ‘read-cover-recite-check’ technique:
  • Read over a key topic from your notes or student textbook
  • Cover what you have read
  • Recite from memory what you have just learnt. In some cases, you might need to write down or draw the information depending on what you’re learning.
  • Check your notes or notebook to see what you’ve missed out. Then fill in those missed gaps.
  • Once you have completed the steps, repeat until you are 100% confident you’ve now learnt that topic. All you need is a piece of paper and pen for this technique, but you can also use flashcards and mind maps.

  • Most importantly, practice as many past paper and exam questions as possible. Make sure you are self-assessing your answers against a mark scheme.
  • Practice answering a range of questions with different command words, for example Compare, Evaluate, Explain and Describe.
  • Practice recalling, rearranging and using all the physics equations.

Revision Expectations - History

  • Seneca-compulsory revision to be completed every week by all students, which takes 1 hour.
  • Seneca: Students must also complete independent revision on Seneca for 2 hours per week.

Revision can include mind maps, flash cards, completing past paper questions, use the mark schemes that are provided online to self-assess your work, read through candidate model answer reports to see what would be the standard that examiners are looking for.

Revision Expectations - Mandarin / French / Spanish

You should be completing regular revision every day (around 15-20 minutes) using the websites above. Revision can include vocabulary self-testing, completing past paper questions, completing questions from your speaking preparation booklet or completing questions from the purple AQA GCSE revision workbook.
