Art and Design
Course Title: Art, Craft and Design (1AD0)
Exam Board: Edexcel
Qualification: GCSE
About the course
Art, Craft and Design GCSE is taught as a two year course, which allows students to enhance existing skills and develop new ones. The course enables students to work in any media on offer which could include drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, sculpture etc. The beginning of the course enables us to introduce new skills and media and then gradually students are encouraged to work more on their own ideas and work more independently based on set themes. A selection of the coursework the students produce, known as their Personal Portfolio, is used for assessment at the end of Year 11. The examination board sets an Externally Set Assignment which is an externally set theme giving the students time to prepare for a timed Exam of ten hours (two days). This is also assessed at the end of the course.
How it is assessed
Work is assessed using four assessment objectives of develop, review/experiment, record and present.
- Unit 1: Personal Portfolio is 60% of overall mark.
- Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment is 40% of overall mark.
Both units assessed and externally moderated at an end of course exhibition.
