Year 12 overview

Overview Autumn Term
Students are introduced to Approaches in Psychology, Biological Psychology, Research Methods and Memory. This gives them the basic understanding of psychology concepts, thus providing a strong foundation. 
 
Overview Spring Term
Topics include Attachment and Social Influence which related to human development and social interaction respectively. 
 
Overview Summer Term
The final topic is Psychopathology, where students discuss the theories surrounding the origins of mental disorders.

Paper 1: Introductory topics in Psychology

Paper 2: Psychology in Context
  • Approaches in Psychology
  • Research Methods
  • Psychopathology 
Both papers are written exams: 1 hour 30 minutes. 72 marks in total. Each paper is worth 50% of AS level. Consists of three sections A, B and C which all have multiple choice, short answer and extended writing, 24 marks

  • Watching documentaries and applying knowledge
  • Designing and carrying out independent research
  • Completing exam questions
  • Researching information prior to the lesson being taught

Year 13 overview

Overview Autumn Term

Students build on their knowledge of Approaches, Biopsychology and Research Methods. They will also be introduced to one of the following options:

  • Forensic psychology 
  • Addiction
  • Aggression 
Overview Spring Term
During the Spring Term, students will choose to study two of the following optional topics:
  • Relationships
  • Gender
  • Cognition and development
  • Schizophrenia
  • Eating behaviour
  • Stress
As well as the compulsory topic Issues and Debates in Psychology. 
 
Overview Summer Term
Students have the opportunity to revise the topics they learnt during the first year of their A level. Topics include:
  • Social influence
  • Memory
  • Attachment
  • Approaches in Psychology
  • Psychopathology
  • Research methods
