Politics

Politics is now an established A Level subject at the Academy. Results have been very good and it is proving a popular and challenging subject. Students are taught a variety of topics, focusing on British Politics in Year 12 and American Politics in Year 13. Units include a study of Electoral Systems, Parties and Pressure Groups, and a comparison of Britain, America and other political systems. There are a variety of Trips and Conferences throughout the year. A particularly lively and interesting conference is one held in December which consists of talks by a variety of high profile politicians such as George Galloway and Charles Kennedy. Students also enjoy a trip to the Houses of Parliament where they have a tour and a chance to watch debates in the Commons Gallery. Maybe one day an ex-Harris student will be an MP giving a speech in the House of Commons!
