Modern Foreign Languages
The French Department at aims not simply to teach a language, but to share a culture. Following the National Curriculum and through the integration of many cross-curricular elements including music and drama, equal emphasis is placed on each of the four skills of language learning (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Through the communicative, interactive study of modules relating closely to society and the world around them, we offer our students the opportunity to approach language learning from a number of different angles, thus ensuring French is accessible to all.
Resources include extensive use of up-to-the-minute television, film and internet, linked closely to the Métro coursebook. Through activities such as group work and filmed role-plays, independent learning skills are developed.
The French Department organises a number of day and residential trips to France each year, giving students the ideal opportunity to experience a different culture first-hand, and to experiment with and develop their language skills in real situations beyond the classroom.
