PE

All students take PE lessons in Key Stages 3 and 4.  From 11 to 16 years of age students follow a broad, balanced curriculum which provides vigorous exercise,  both indoors and outdoors in equal measure which is designed to encourage teamwork, mobility, agility, strength, balance and communication.

To aid the four full-time PE specialists in this task the Academy has superb indoor facilities comprising of a large sports hall, gymnasium and a state of the art fitness suite.  Indoor lesson activities rotate half termly and include basketball, badminton, gymnastics, sports acrobatics, trampolining and dance. The Academy has use of a 20 acre playing field within walking distance of the Academy site. In winter there are 4 football pitches, a 5-a-side football pitch and a rugby pitch.  In summer there are 3 cricket pitches, an 8 lane running track and 4 rounders pitches.  The outdoor winter lessons offer traditional activities like football, netball and cross-country running which in summer become athletics, rounders and cricket.

The Academy has enjoyed unrivalled extra curricular success in sport with recent successes nationally in basketball and at county and borough level in netball, football, athletics, cricket, rounders and cross-country running.  There are teams for each year group in all of the aforementioned activities.  Rugby Union coaching and matches also take place as extra curricular activities.  Rugby is a thriving and popular activity taking place twice a week.

Academic studies for Key Stage 4 students include a GCSE PE Short Course in Physical Education which is taken by approximately 120 students a year.  At Post 16, the Academy also offers Advanced Subsidiary and A2 Physical Education.
