Upon joining Harris City Academy Crystal Palace every student becomes a member of a Faculty. There are four Faculties and each comprises two tutor groups from each of Years 7-11. Faculties provide a sense of belonging to a smaller unit which overcomes the concerns some students have when moving to a large secondary school. Each Faculty is led by an Assistant Principal as Head of Faculty (HoF) who is a member of the Academy Leadership Team. The Faculties are Arts, Communications, Science & Mathematics and Technology, all of which have their own distinctive Faculty coloured ties which are worn by the students in each Faculty as part of their Academy uniform. In addition the Student Services Faculty works to support all students in a range of areas. There is a healthy rivalry amongst the Faculties which increases student motivation and encourages students to work together. Throughout the Academy life students represent their Faculty in a wide variety of ways including sporting and other activities. Click on the links on the left for more detailed information on each Faculty. Further information on the subjects, courses and curriculum within each Faculty can be viewed via the Curriculum tab at the top of the home page.
The Academy Homily is a long established tradition at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace and is an important part of the day for all students and staff be it in whole Academy Assemblies, Faculty Assemblies or Tutor Time. It forms the foundations of every day at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace and underpins the values which all members of the Academy community subscribe to.
This is the time when we spend a few moments in quiet reflection, according to our own personal beliefs or God, thinking about the individual contribution that we can make to our Academy. We ask for the strength and courage to be good citizens, to respect others and to practise courtesy, consideration and cooperation so that we may share equally the benefits of our community.
