Girls Rugby

On the 26th January a squad of girls travelled to Warlingham Rugby Football Club to participate in the RFU Emerging Schools Rugby Tournament. A total of 17 schools entered the competition with boys and girls team, ranging from year 7 to year 10 students. The competition consisted of two tournaments for our female students; both Tag+ Rugby and U13 girls transitional contact rugby.

The Tag team consisting of Rhianna Nicol, Baiduah Quartey, Shakira King, Francesca Vicente, Lucie Georgiadias and Krista Yaxley played 7 very slippy and muddy games in total, winning 3 against Harris South Norwood, Riddlesdown and Graveney. Most notable performances were from leading try scorers Rhianna and Lucie, due to their blistering speed and agile step despite facing competition from girls who were much taller and stronger.

The girls transitional team consisted of Quianna Simpson-Plummer, Susana Wilko-Ng, Meena Anderson, Faith Douglas-Sargeant , Aisha Pommells and Silver Bohus-Roper. Due to varying squad numbers and ages of the schools entering, the Harris girls formed a Barbarian style team with other contact players from different schools and managed an impressive 2 wins out of 4 games played.  Notable performances came from Quianna Simpson-Plummer and Susana Wikho-Ng who put in some excellent tackles during the game despite the difficult pitch conditions.

All girls came away plastered in mud with smiles on their faces. They all represented the academy superbly both on and off the pitch.

Special thanks go to the RFU and Paul Wilson, for coaching these girls after school and organising such a superb tournament.
