Our Trip to Boulogne
Our Trip to Boulogne
Today was a normal day, like every other day. Well, for everyone else anyway. It was the sixteenth of June. Our whole class have been waiting for this day for over three months. The trip to France! We all hoped for a great day.
Everyone was buzzing with excitement, our voices a (loud) babble in the otherwise quiet school. It was very early but I had tons of energy, impatient to go. After what felt like endless minutes of waiting, the coaches finally came and we got on. Our class was with 7SS, and it was pretty loud. I watched as London flew past us, finally arriving at what looked like a terminal. After a visit to the shopping centre, we got back onto the coach for another long journey through the tunnel.
We came out of the tunnel, not knowing what to expect. We gradually came closer to busier areas, and French houses lined up neatly. They looked very pretty, no wheelie bins or blocks of flats. I remembered clearly a sign saying ‘France’ as we turned round a corner and parked in front of a huge shopping place. As big as IKEA. Mr Shanks led us in and we all went off to look around. I noticed familiar things, like coco pops, but there were other foods I’d never seen (or heard of) before. Like some very long stick things that looked disgusting but were apparently very nice! We came out in our groups and into the coach to go to the next place, everyone chatting about what they bought.
We next went to an older part of Boulogne, built years ago. The buildings were made of stone instead of bricks and it was really cool, like going back in time. You could imagine, everywhere like this, with people in fancy clothing, playing classical songs and everything. We ate lunch and explored more of the gardens we were in. There was a huge boat and statues in various places. As we walked further on, we came up to a street full of souvenir shops.
I remember this being the best part of the trip. I bought tons, using up my spending money for gifts to give to my family and friends. My favourite was a tiny key ring of the Eiffel tower.
We were all still very jumpy when we reached the aquarium. Other schools were there with us. Adults with little kids. People with sunglasses conversing in fluent French. It was really busy there! We went in, and it was a great experience. We got to a part of it where the floor was made of glass and you could see the seals underneath us. We saw sea lions as well, doing a performance with a trainer. It was all so cool! Especially when they all jumped in simultaneously, swimming out smoothly and in perfect coordination.
When we reached the coach, there was a whole load of talking. We’d done loads and had so much fun doing it. Learning new things out of the classroom, physically. It was even busier as we travelled back home. I knew I wouldn’t forget the day. Not anytime soon anyway. It was fantastic!!!
