Rome
During the Easter break 44 year 10s and 11s took part in a trip to Rome where we all got the chance to witness some of the city’s most famous sites.
On the first day it was an early start with each of us meeting at the school at 4:20 am to set off on our journey to Gatwick. After a 2 hour flight we landed and after collecting our bags we were off to our hotels to check in. Our first activity was a 4D experience of the history of Rome where we got to learn about the different artefacts we would be visiting throughout our trip. We then visited the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps. As this was the place where artists would find models for their paintings a few individuals got to show off their cat walking skills; some were particularly good, especially the boys achieving impressive hair flicks! Although we got to see many beautiful sites on our first day one that was perhaps not so attractive was the dining room after some students took part in a dessert eating challenge at the hotel, with the winner managing to eat 11 whole puddings!
The second day was spent at some of Rome’s most famous historical sites including the Pantheon, Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. The weather was perfect and we all got back to the hotel with a great knowledge of the different places we had visited, also having learnt how frustrated Mr Biddiscombe could get over not being able to jump three steps like some of the younger members of the group had done with ease.
On Wednesday we left Rome to view the amazing Vatican City and Sistine Chapel where we got to observe a number of pieces of artwork including famous sculptures, mosaics and paintings such as the creation of Adam by Michelangelo. Along with this we were also able to see the stunning sights from the top of the Piazza di San Pietro.
Thursday was spent taking part in a cruise of the Tiber River where many people made new friends and taught English to a group of young children from an Italian school. We then went to Ostia Beach, although it had been the coldest day of the trip so far, many of us got in to our swimming costumes and jumped into the freezing sea for a swim.
